Prior to your visit

  • Hair should be cleanly shaven.
  • Do not wear makeup on the treated area the day of treatment.
  • No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment.

Includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure, etc.

  • No waxing, plucking or tweezing at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.

Some body parts may require a longer wait time.

  • Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (depilatories, harsh chemicals, etc.).
  • Notify the clinic with any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment.
  • History of herpes or cold sores may require an antiviral prescription prior to treatment.

Please contact the office with questions or concerns regarding your treatment.

Information for after your visit

General Skin Care:

  • During the healing phase, the area must be treated delicately.
  • Do not rub, scratch, or pick. If a crust develops, let it fall off on its own.
  • Keep the area moist - repeat several times a day.
  • Do not scrub the area, pat the area dry.
  • Avoid sun exposure throughout the course of treatment and use a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sun block SPF 30 or greater when treatment area is exposed to the sun.
  • Avoid skin irritants a few days post-treatment (e.g., products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc.)
  • Do not shave over the area if swelling, crusting, or scabbing is present.
  • Do not wax or pluck between treatments.
  • If swelling occurs, apply ice. Wrap the ice in a soft cloth. Discomfort or stinging may be relieved with acetaminophen.
  • If makeup is allowed, it must be applied and removed delicately.
  • Excess rubbing can open treated area increasing the chance of scarring.
  • Avoid sports and/or strenuous exercises for 2–3 days following treatment for hair removal and 7– 10 days for veins. Walking is encouraged.
  • The treated hairs will exfoliate or push out in approximately 2-4 weeks.
  • Hair growth after the treatment is not a sign that the treatment did not work. The hair that was already in the follicle has been targeted and needs to be released to the surface.
  • In case of signs of infection (pus, tenderness, fever), contact the office immediately.

Post-treatment skin care instructions must be followed to prevent any complications.

Please contact the office with questions or concerns regarding your treatment.

  • Keep hydrated by drinking water (at least eight cups daily) or hydrating fluids to improve treatment outcomes.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours in advance of treatment.
  • For three to seven days prior to treatment, at the physician’s discretion, avoid therapies that may cause erythema (redness) or irritation, such as retinols or products containing isotretinoin and any exfoliating acid preparations.
  • Shave visible hair from the treatment area.
  • Male beards should be shaved on the day of treatment

The same procedure should be followed prior to each visit.

Do not scrub or exfoliate the skin.

  • Wash the area with warm water and a mild cleanser.
  • Do not apply liquid makeup for 24 hours; mineral makeup is acceptable after the erythema resolves.
  • If erythema after treatment persists, use an ice pack (or frozen peas) at home, but always use a protective barrier, such as a face cloth, between the skin and the ice pack.
  • Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your face: there are micropathways opened into the dermis and hands will introduce bacteria.
  • If skin feels tight or dry, apply moisturizing cream frequently.
  • If you currently have skin breakouts, you may find that the condition may temporarily worsen due to inflammation or edema.
  • Do not pick at treated tissue: doing so may result in hyper- or hypopigmentation.
  • Avoid ultraviolet rays and apply sunblock >30 SPF UV A/B daily.
  • Avoid alcohol consumption if possible.
  • For 24 hours, refrain from high intensity aerobic exercise or activities that increase the body temperature like saunas, hot tubs, steam showers or exercise (i.e. jogging, weight training, kickboxing, etc.).

Call your practitioner if any problems develop: concerns regarding rash, itching, erythema, etc., for more than 24 hours.

Prior to your neuromodulator treatment, you should:

  • Avoid any medications or herbal supplements that increase risk of bleeding. These may include any Aspirin-containing over-the-counter products, NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like Ibuprofen and Naproxen, Rantidine (Zantac), as well as herbal supplements like ginko biloba, garlic, ginseng, fish oil, dong quai, feverfew, and tumeric, as well as high potency vitamin E, in order to avoid bruising at the site.

  • Do NOT manipulate the treated area for 3 hours following treatment. Do NOT receive facial/ laser treatments or microdermabrasion after Botox injections for at least 10 days. Ask your provider if you are not sure about the time frame of certain services.
  • Some providers believe that smiling and frowning right after Botox treatments helps the Botox find its way to the muscle into which it was injected after treated.
  • Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after your Botox treatment. This will prevent the Botox from tracking into the orbit of your eye and causing drooping eyelid.
  • It can take approximately 4 to 7 days for results to be seen. If the desired result is not seen after 2 weeks of your treatment you may need additional Botox. You are charged for the amount of product used. Therefore, you will be charged for product used during any touch up or subsequent appointments.
  • Do NOT perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 6 hours after treatment. This will keep the Botox in the injected area and not elsewhere.

  • Avoid fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or allergic to any ingredients.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, there is a risk that needle pricks could activate a recurrence of cold sores. Please advise Dr. Wu if you are prone to cold sores or herpes simplex infections so she can prescribe an oral medication called Valtrex to be started prior to your appointment.
  • Avoid dental procedures or cleanings 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after filler injections.
  • Avoid CoVax or other vaccinations 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after a filler treatment.
  • Please notify us in advance of your appointment if you have an active infection (such as dental infection, ear infection, sinusitis, urinary tract infection)
  • Please be sure to share with us your current medications and supplements, and history of allergies.
  • We need to know about your previous cosmetic treatments and surgeries

AlumierMD skin treatments result in minimal to no downtime but create dramatic and visible results. Treatments can cause slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking or temporary dryness. Most patients do not find it necessary to apply makeup, as the skin with be smooth, dewy and radiant following your treatment.

  • You may have light to moderate flaking in a few localized areas for 3 to 7 days.
  • You may or may not actually ‘peel’, it is likely that you will experience light ‘exfoliation’. It may take 2 or more treatments to target the deeper layers of skin to loosen and ‘peel’.
  • You may experience residual redness, which lasts in most patients from 1 to 12 hours.
  • It is recommended that you do not apply makeup the day of the treatment. It is ideal to allow the skin to stabilise and rest overnight.
  • Usually 3-5 days after the treatment, fresh new skin will develop after the peeling has run its course. Your new skin may feel tight and warm or may look somewhat red immediately after a treatment. Recovery time varies slightly, and skin might be temporarily lighter or darker than normal, depending on the patient. Not all patients will notice skin peeling.
